 COMPLETELY INAPPROPRIATE July 19, 2008
My 5 year old daughter thoroughly enjoys Pinkalicious. So I got very excited when I saw Purplicious--my daughter's favorite color. Unfortunately, I did not preview it beforehand. Pinkalicious was delightful, how bad could the sequel be? Boy was I wrong. My daughter and I began reading Purplicious and I could not believe how negative and mean spirited it was. After the first few pages, I kept thinking, "It's got to get better very soon." But it didn't. I finally stopped reading it to her mid-story and had to apologize for the totally inappropriate book. I promised her another book and returned Purplicious.
Huge disappointment July 19, 2008
Loved Pinkilicious....sat down to read this one with great anticipation and what a let down. A bummer of a book. Kids making fun of each other and calling pink a baby color, and a color for sissies. Ostracizing the little girl becuase she likes pink..then she gets the blues all because someone thinks black is in, pink is out and because of this she has lost all her friends....please my kids want to read a fun,creative and inventive story and this is not any of those things. It is a book of mean kids making fun of a little girl because she paints happy pictures and likes pink. I agree with all the one star reviews...you keep hoping it will turn around and it never does till the last page when she meet a friend who likes purple but by then you are so dissapointed. They should have called the book "blackugly". My little girl loves pink and I really,really regret not pre reading this book. She is 5 and doesn't need to think there is anything wrong with her love of pink...her pink room, her pink dresses, her pink everything. She's a happy little pink princess girl who likes feminine frilly pink things not a goth child dressed in black at 5. Sooooooo dissapointing!!!!!

A consistent negative life lesson throughout the book. I was amazed as I read the book...continually waiting for it to turnaround. Never did. And, what about the color purple...mentioned only in the last pages? My 3 and 6 year olds were so confused and sad because they truly loved Pinkalicious. I can't believe this made it past the editors.

My daughter received this as a gift for her 3rd birthday. I should have read this myself before reading aloud to her. It is very mean-spirited and definitely not suitable for a 3-year-old (I do realize it says ages 4 - 8). The name-calling and shunning is a reality with girls in school, but this book is written for kids in the 3 - 5 year range, and in my opinion is too juvenile for ages 7 -8, yet too mean-spirited for 3 and 4 year-olds. Why introduce children who have not experienced teasing and torment to it through a book, when reading with your child should be enjoyable.

Pinkalicious was great. A great story about a girl that loved pink.
This book, in my husband's opionion, should not even be donated to Goodwill.
The entire book is negative (with lots of mean girls and dressed like 'punks'), until the last page, when one girls wants to support linking purple.
Do NOT buy.
